This course presented by Fr. Leland Thorpe, OMV discusses both sets of Ignatian rules for the discernment of spirits to help students notice, understand, and take proper action with respect to the interior motions they experience. The application of the rules to daily life is taken up in a discussion of the Ignatian examen, and their application to discerning God’s will in specific matters is taken up in a discussion of the Ignatian election.

This course presented by Tom & Jean Marie Edwards provides a Scriptural and theoretical background for the gifts of the Holy Spirit. By exploring personal giftedness, each student will be encouraged to develop gifts for use in spiritual companioning.

Rojas will explain the rationale that supports the Vatican’s latest document “Mater Populi Fidelis” (Mother of the Faithful People) approved by Pope Leo XIV which emphasizes that while Mary has a unique role in salvation, titles such as “Co-Redemptrix” and “Mediatrix” are inappropriate and potentially misleading.

This course is an introduction to the foremost spiritualities that have shaped Catholic Faith and discipleship. Students will be invited to delve into the rich ascetic traditions found in the teachings of renowned saints and spiritual leaders. From the profound insights of St. Paul and the Desert Fathers to the theological brilliance of Augustine and the monastic wisdom of Benedict, each figure provides a unique lens through which to understand Catholic spirituality. The course will also cover the dynamic evangelism of Dominic, the radical simplicity of Francis, and the contemplative practices of Ignatius, Theresa of Avila, and John of the Cross. Furthermore, students will explore the gentle guidance of Francis De Sales, the Marian devotion of Louis De Montfort, and the pastoral care of Alphonsus Liguori. Through these teachings, students will gain a deeper appreciation of the spiritual heritage that continues to inspire and guide Catholic discipleship today.
